Learn. Connect. What is a Learning Community? Learning Communities are groups of students with a shared academic interest, future career, and/or personal identity or interest. Members of a Learning Community: live together in the same residence, often on the same floor, to build your community and have a "home away from home" learn together through at least one shared class to ensure you have support in the classroom and can achieve academic success connect to other students, upper-division Peer Mentors , and faculty and staff with shared interests prepare for the future through exclusive academic, social, and professional activities and events take trips throughout Nebraska and participate in community service projects Check out what students say about Learning Communities! Deadline to apply has been EXTENDED to June 1! Who Can Be in a Learning Community? Learning Communities are open to ANY interested first-year student at UNL! Our Learning Communities are primarily focused on many different academic and career pursuits, but we have many Learning Communities based on personal identities and interest such as ’ First-Gen ,’ ’ Melvin W. Jones Scholars ,’ and ’ The Good Life: Nature Explorers .’ View all our Learning Communities . To join a Learning Community, you must first complete your Housing Application . After completing your Housing Application, you can select "Join a Learning Community!" on the Housing Services page in the Housing Portal. Students are admitted into Learning Communities on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s best to be early!
